My 1st experience at a Nigerian restaurant.....what a surprise!! Very nice food, well made and adequately priced, with generous portions. Ordered ahead so our meals were more or less ready as expected. Service all done with a friendly smile, with no rush for us to leave. Being as English as I am, I chose a mildly spiced dish which was very, very tasty indeed. I'd only say, if the menu could be clarified a bit, it'd be a good help in ordering. Other than that, highly recommended.

The food was wholesome. But the decor is a little dated and atmosphere flat for a Saturday.

Mama Calabar in London is no fluke. De food justifies de name of this restaurant. Several Nigerian varieties & delights to choose from. All delicious & served fresh & steaming hot. Even local side chops like poof poof, chin chin, etc available. Located in a quiet neighbourhood, Hendon. Just about 250 metres to de train station. Furthermore, haven't seen a neater & well set up restaurant in recent times. Everything sparkling & in order (including de convenience. U can also peep into de kitchen & withness de same cleanliness & organisation. Chilled Nigerian lager present. Limited outdoor seating is available, especially for de revellers. Guess u know wat I mean!

It was my first time and the reception, ambience, and environment was beyond my expectation. I ordered multiple starters thinking they would be too small but turned out that they were large portions of each. The fufu was sizeable, but my mum couldn't finish it...smiles. The grilled fish was well-cooked, sauced, and dry. The waiter was so kind and helpful. The food reminded me of home, coincidentally it's our independence today. I will definitely visit again.

a very good place to enjoy your favourite african dishes. there was only one waiter on duty so the service was a little slow. the food was well portioned and presented and it tasted good.

The atmosphere and service was great. Good customer relations but the pricing was too expensive and the quality of the food was poor. I spent 100£ and I regret wasting my money. The garnished snail was too expensive and very small. It was …

Poor on all fronts. Helen Duke, the proprietor knows nothIng about customer service, being classy, grace, graciousness and good old fashioned savvy. For decades, people looking for Nigerian food in North London were woefully underserved but this is an interesting one - there is an outpost of the legendary South London born 805, right next door, right here in North London, and this establishment just doesn’t even bother to show up for itself and contrives to be the worst of all possible worlds. Rank rudeness. Unconscionable complacency. A decor from the 70s. Food quality is variable but more often than not just disappoints in the most basic areas. Overpriced, soaked in oil and occasionally phoned in. Like many, I return every so often, hoping for a return to glory and improving standards. Hopes these are always dashed. The latest (and final) iteration of the ritual humiliation thar is engaging with this place was the following, in brief. We ordered food that arrived smelling absolutely putrid. Totally inedible. The stench persisted even after the food was disposed of. A call to let the shop know was met with belligerence, abuse and yes, an implication that one might be lying. Unbelievable. When the food is good, it’s good but it’s Russian roulette every single time - even ordering is like running a gauntlet to be understood, spoken to with courtesy and get your order right, without cheeky asides or abrasive untrained personnel who obviously take their conduct cues from their insufferable owner, who occasionally holds noisy court in the restaurant whilst studiedly entirely ignoring ordinary paying patrons. It’s exhausting. You run a massive risk though that when your food comes out rancid, you’ll not only get no apology or understanding and are more likely to get a (metaphorical…?) slap in the face, in an establishment that obviously still imagines itself to be in a wretched market stall in an rain sodden Oshodi enclave. When there were no options and one couldn’t pony up the effort to cook, it might have been worth the risk. But there are now good options, one even on same street. I know where my significant expenditure will be finding it’s way without fail, going forward. Avoid like the plague.
